A vége tragikus volt, egy anarchista meggyilkolta Genfben, csak rosszkor volt rossz helyen. Sisi életét sokszor megfilmesítették, a Romy Schneiderrel és Karl Heinz Böhmmel készült trilógia világsiker lett.
