Sisi’s Amazing Journey
At the beginning of Sisi’s Amazing Journey, you will learn exciting details about Sisi’s most important years in an anecdotal way. Capuchin crypt
The mortal remains of Empress Elisabeth are located next to Emperor Franz Joseph in the Imperial Crypt at Neuer Markt in Vienna. Resting in a beautiful Art Nouveau coffin, many fans come to bring flowers. Her last wish – to have her ashes scattered over the sea in Corfu – was not granted.
Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments
the Sisi Museum in the Imperial Apartments of the Hofburg and Schönbrunn Palace show where and how Sisi lived at the imperial court. There is a permanent exhibition in the Wagenburg with various objects documenting Elisabeth’s life.
Sisi statue in the Volksgarten
We find a central monument with an integrated garden somewhat hidden in the Volksgarten on the Burgtheater side. Turn left at the entrance and you will come directly to the statue. It was unveiled almost 10 years after her death. The sculptors were Hans Bitterlich and Friedrich Ohmann. Emperor Franz Joseph determined the location and was certainly right. Sisi already hated being stared at in life, which the hidden location did well. If you walk from Heldenplatz or Ballhausplatz into the Volksgarten, you can head straight for the beautiful grounds.
Elisabeth Chapel in the Mexican Church
A magnificent Art Nouveau chapel worth seeing, which was dedicated to her. This beautiful chapel was built thanks to generous donations from the Red Cross, of which she was the first protector.
Sisi Chapel in the sky (Kahlenberg)
This neo-Gothic chapel was built to mark the marriage of Elisabeth and Franz Joseph on April 24, 1854. It is located in the middle of the Vienna Woods in the 19th district of Sievering. The area is called Am Himmel, which is near the Gspöttgraben. The small chapel offers a beautiful setting for weddings.
Empress Elisabeth Ruhe (Kahlenberg)
The Kaiserin Elisabeth Ruhe is located on Villenweg, near the viewpoint on Kahlenberg. Elisabeth loved the view of the city from Kahlenberg and enjoyed coming here. It is on the upper floor, a little out of the way.

In Salzburg, a statue of Sisi adorns Südtiroler Platz near the main railway station. In Vienna, many streets and squares are named after Elisabeth, e.g. Elisabethstraße in the 1st district, or the Empress Elisabeth Hospital bears her name. You can admire many Sisi monuments in Hungary in particular, but also in Corfu, Madeira, Possenhofen, Merano, Trieste, Montreux, Geneva and Bad Kissingen, to name but a few.
